BURUNDI PRESIDENT NKURUNZIZA LAUNCHES A GOVERNMENTAL RETREAT

BURUNDI PRESIDENT H.E. PIERRE NKURUNZIZA

H.E. Pierre Nkurunziza launched a two-day Governmental Retreat. He will address the performance of the institutions, the basis for a strong economic growth able to deal with challenges of poverty and to compete with sub-regional countries. He feels the retreat will be an appropriate framework to look back and assess the steps already achieved as well as looking to improve performance and cultivate positive results. He has a working framework – Rapid Results Method – and reminded the participants of this.

President Nkurunziza also brought to memory the recent history of Burundi’s crisis leading to civil war and the political instability that shattered the country’s economy. This all led to a major exodus of the population, creating refugees and IDPs.

The year 2005 marked the beginning of President Nkurunziza first term in office and ushered in a new era for Burundians that would bring peace. Burundi is still faced with many challenges like poverty, rebuilding and reconciliation. During their two-day retreat Burundi’s top leaders plan to explore concrete strategies to address those challenges.

The World Bank country representative Mercy Tembon, said, “The retreat would put Burundi on the roadmap towards economic growth, poverty reduction and stability.” President Nkurunziza warned, “The gamble will be won only if the government works to promote good governance, ‘pillar of the economic stability.’”
